I'm thinking about snow. Are you?

So the pre-season is officially here - the movies are showing around town, expo season is upon us, and cold wet storms are hitting the coastline.  11.11.11 welcomed a cut off low to California last night - my 5:55 pm flight from LAX to SFO didn't depart until sometime around 10 pm, meaning I got close to midnight.  It was a stiff, bumpy ride up out of SoCal, with reports of winds gusting at 45 on the mountain crests.  It will certainly help Mammoth open strong. I kicked things off with a ski…See More

ZERMATT

After three great days in Saas Fee, we awoke early on Friday for the trip to Zermatt.  We had found a great last minute deal at Hotel Europe und Spa (thanks to expedia.co.uk) on a four star hotel in Zermatt the night before, and were able to drop our luggage off there in the morning before taking the very long ride up to…See More

SAAS FEE SUMMER SKIING

Sorry for the delay in posting - my new MacBook Air is taking some getting used to - I've always been a pc guy, but time came for a change! Upon leaving Tignes, we drove up and over the Col du Petit St. Bernard, which is the low point to the east and serves as a route connecting France and Italy.  The drive up took us through the resort of La Rosiere, and was quite spectacular, with massive valley views…See More

Hello Skiers and Riders!

Even with the great snow year we had in Tahoe, the ski season eventually did end - but I wasn't satisfied, so my friend Aim and I decided to go to the Alps to do some glacier skiing!  We met at Heathrow, flew to Geneva, and rented a car (Renault Modus) and…

Sorry to hear about your bike, that's a bummer :(

I'm gonna have to get out to Kirkwood sometime and find a local to buddy up with I guess. . . that place sounds amazing!

The Eastern Sierras are great in the summer, there's so much to do up there! You'll have to come check out Mammoth in the winter too. It's quite a drive for you compared to Tahoe, but I'm sure you'd enjoy the mountain. It offers a bit of everything, as far as terrain. It's big and spread out, kind of like Squaw, but once you learn the lift system it's pretty easy and quick to get around.

Take some pictures on your upcoming Tahoe trip! Happy trails!

Yeah, Santa Barbara is nice too. . . I lived there for school and still make it down there quite a bit. Most of the tourists come to Santa Ynez for the wine, but I love all of the hiking and biking trails around here to keep me entertained when I can't be skiing. Watch out for the heat in the summer, though!

Homewood is awesome, you just can't beat that view! I heard they are planning on building it up though, putting in a village or something? Too bad, I like it the way it is. Mt Rose is great too, a little further drive, but it never disappoints. Do you ever ski Kirkwood? I never have, but want to get out there sometime. I always hear good things about it.

Mammoth usually stays open thru July 4th, but I heard rumors that they're closing earlier this season- lack of customers I guess. I usually don't ski past April anyway. . . too slushy.

Hey, you don't happen to be the same Josh I met on a lift in Jackson Hole last season, do you? Just wondering because you fit the description. Anyway, have fun on your next Tahoe trip! You never know, you could get another storm. I'll pray for snow.

Hey Josh,
Ya, it's a long haul to the snow from Santa Ynez, but I carpool up to Mammoth and we take turns driving, so it's not so bad. I used to always go to North Lake Tahoe when I was little, but these days I only make it up there about once a year. Alpine and Squaw are my favorites up there, but they're all fun. Where do you usually ski in Tahoe?
